Mike pastors the Punto Luce (Point of Light) Church in Milan, Italy.  Schaafsmas also serve with Cede Sports, a ministry working to mobilize churches and chaplains into sports ministry to meet people where they are.  Mike and Nina are joined in ministry by their son Max.

When Covid hit Italy hard, ministry changed a great deal, but it continued!  While many church functions had to go online, new ministry opportunities arose as well.  When Samaritan’s Purse set up a field hospital in the parking lot of a local, overwhelmed hospital, Mike was able to serve there as a chaplain.  In this role, God was able to use him to minister directly to people in their desperate need.

Most recently, in October of 2022, Punto Luce and the Schaafsmas were involved in organizing and facilitating Franklin Graham’s evangelistic outreach in Milan: NOI Festival Milano.  Over 13,000 people came together to hear the gospel preached in a Milan stadium.  In preparation for this huge event, more than 4,000 Italians completed the Christian Life and Witness Course (CLWC)—free training on how to share their faith in Jesus Christ.  This great undertaking required a lot of time and energy, but it paid off as Schaafsmas saw God using the event to bear fruit for the Kingdom in their own church as well as across Milan.
