Richmond was settled in the fall of 1859 by its Founders. In 1860, about 25 families moved to Richmond. Because of the influx of settlers, President Brigham Young visited Richmond and instructed the Pioneers to build a fort. By 1864, the fort was deconstructed, and the Pioneers were free to move wherever they pleased in Richmond.
