Soon after Arthur was born, the Walton family moved to Mexico, Maine. The early history of Arthur is unknown. He married Martha Ann Madora Walton on Dec 6, 1821 in Rumford, Maine. In 1838 the state of Maine began a dispute against the United Kingdom over land border issues for the State. The Aroostook War started in 1838, and Arthur enlisted in the U.S. militia in 1839 to fight against the United Kingdom. He was released from active duty on Nov 29.
In Aug 1842, the Walton family was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Soon after, the Walton family moved to Nauvoo, Illinois to be closer to the Saints. When the time came to move to the Salt Lake Valley, Arthur's oldest son, William Henry Harrison Walton, was appointed Captain of a company of Saints. They were called the Harry Walton/Garden Grove Company and were organized on May 17, 1851 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They left soon after their organization and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 24, 1851.
Soon after their arrival, they moved to Bountiful, Utah. In 1853, Martha died. On Nov 10, 1855, Arthur married Rebecca Huff in the Endowment House, Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1860, the Walton family moved to Richmond.
