U.S.A. Census
The Census of the United States of America
The United States Census Bureau was created in 1790 soon after George Washington took office as the first President of the U.S. The purpose of the annual census is to record the names of all American people and where they are located at the time of the Census from City, County, and State.
The first census that the citizens of Richmond participated in was the 1860 census. However, due to the fact that Richmond was not yet incorporated, Richmond is not listed as a location, and all citizens were labeled as living in Cache Valley. Richmond was incorporated in 1868, and by the time the 1870 census started, Richmond was labeled as a location.
The Genealogical Society of Utah was founded in 1894 by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Today, its website counterpart FamilySearch.org has all U.S. censuses digitized and available online for free with a FamilySearch.org account. All censuses are linked to the digitized version. Due to a fire in the Commerce Department building, only fragments of the 1890 census survived. The Utah census was not one of the survivors, so there is no link provided for it.
The U.S. census becomes available to the public eye after 72 years. The most recent is the 1950 census, which was made available in 2022. The next census is the 1960 census and will be made available in 2032.
