At a young age, William worked in a cotton spinner factory where he met Elizabeth Stockton. William married Elizabeth on May 4, 1833 in Penwortham, England.
Sometime between 1836-1837, William and Elizabeth were converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were baptized by Apostle Heber C. Kimball.2 The Pool family boarded the North American on Sep 8, 1840 and landed in New York City, New York, on Oct 121 and moved to Nauvoo, Illinois the soon after.
After the assassination of Church President Joseph Smith in 1844, the Pool family moved to St. Louis, Missouri. On July 1, 1851, the Pool family joined the James W. Cummings Company and entered the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 30. They lived in Salt Lake City until 1855, when they moved to Ogden, Utah.
The Pool family moved to Cache Valley in the winter of 1860, where their oldest son, John, was residing in Wellsville. That same April, they moved to Richmond.
