Merinda Knowles Melling was born Nov 5, 1838 in Preston, England to John and Ellen Knowles Melling. Merinda is a Pioneer of Richmond.
A year prior to Merinda's birth, her parents had converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Merinda was one of the first English children to be raised in the teachings of the Church. In 1855, the Melling family had enough funds to move to the United States of America and be with the Saints. They boarded the Siddons on Feb 27, 1855 and landed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 20.1 They made their way to Mormon Grove, Kansas and joined the John Hindley Company. They left Kansas on June 7, 1855 and entered the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 3.
After moving to many locations before they landed in Ogden, Utah. During their time in Odgen, Merinda met and married William Pool on June 3, 1856 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Pool family moved to Cache Valley in the winter of 1860, where their oldest son, John, was residing in Wellsville. That same April, they moved to Richmond. In 1874, the Pool family moved back to Ogden.
Merinda Knowles Melling died Feb 1, 1932 in Ogden, Utah. She was buried in the Ogden Cemetery.
