William Pool was born Nov 21, 1812 in Lancashire, England to Daniel and Ann Coward Pool. William is a Pioneer of Richmond. William was a veteran of the Indian Wars.
At a young age, William worked in a cotton spinner factory where he met Elizabeth Stockton. William married Elizabeth on May 4, 1833 in Penwortham, England.3
Sometime between 1836-1837, William and Elizabeth were converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were baptized by Apostle Heber C. Kimball.2 The Pool family boarded the North American on Sep 8, 1840 and landed in New York City, New York, on Oct 121 and moved to Nauvoo, Illinois the soon after.
"This also happened during these frightening times. It was late at night and someone knocked at the door. Grandfather went to open the door. A man, he did not know, stood in the light of the doorway and said he had come to ask grandfather to come and help dig a grave for someone who had died. Again, the prompting of the Holy Spirit said “Don’t go”. Grandfather said “Where do you want me to meet you?” I’ll have to get my coat.” When he went back into the room his wife said to him, “You aren’t going are you?” Whereupon grandfather said, “No”. I am not going. If I did I would dig my own grave”. The next morning he enquired about a death and found there had been none. His obedience to the principles of the gospel and his love for the Lord saved his life more than once."3
After the assassination of Church President Joseph Smith in 1844, the Pool family moved to St. Louis, Missouri. On July 1, 1851, the Pool family joined the James W. Cummings Company and entered the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 30. They lived in Salt Lake City until 1855, when they moved to Ogden, Utah.

Benson as Colonel. Richmond was organized as the 5th Battalion Infantry, with Thomas L. Whittle as Major, David P. Rainy as Adjutant, and Robert M. Kerr and Dana Walton as Captains. William was appointed as a Private.
William married Elizabeth Stockton on May 4, 1833 in Penwortham, England. They had eight children, with four living to adulthood.
