In 1841, the Preece family was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After the passing of Susanna's mother and father before 1850, she used the money from the estate action to afford their fare to the United States of America. They sailed on the Ellen Maria on Feb 1, 1851, and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana, on April 7.1 During their travel, their daughter died and was buried in the sea. The Preece family made it to Council Bluffs, Iowa, before they ran out of money to make it to Utah.
Susanna, with her four children, joined the John Tidwell Company on June 4, 1852 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 10. After their arrival, Susanna's youngest child died from scarlet fever. In 1860, the Preece family moved to Franklin, Idaho. When her son Mark moved to Cove, she followed.
