Susanna Pritchard was born May 15, 1806 in London, England to John and Sarah Foster Pritchard. Susanna is a Pioneer of Cove. Susanna is the earliest-born Pioneer to live in Cove.
The early history of Susanna is unknown. Susanna married Richard Preece on June 11, 1832 in Ewyas, England, but moved to many different towns and cities in England, raising their family.
In 1841, the Preece family was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After the passing of Susanna's mother and father before 1850, she used the money from the estate action to afford their fare to the United States of America. They sailed on the Ellen Maria on Feb 1, 1851, and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana, on April 7.1 During their travel, their daughter died and was buried in the sea. The Preece family made it to Council Bluffs, Iowa, before they ran out of money to make it to Utah.
During their wait, Robert died. Susanna, with her four children, joined the John Tidwell Company on June 4, 1852 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 10. After their arrival, Susanna's youngest child died from scarlet fever.
Sometime before 1860, Susanna remarried to Henry Walker. She lived with him until he entered the practice of polygamy, and she moved in with her sons. In 1860, the Preece family moved to Franklin, Idaho. When her son Mark moved to Cove, she followed.
Susanna Pritchard died April 28, 1882 in Cove. She was buried in the Franklin, Idaho Cemetery.
"My father's mother, Susanna P. Preece was buried in Franklin, but there never was marker. So I talked with my cousin Ben Porter about it and he thought we should do something about it. He said, "Go ahead, Susie, and I'll help." Well, it went on for several years with nothing done, so I commenced trying to talk it up. We decided that she nad enough grandsons, great-grandsons or male descendants that if each would pay 50ยข, there would be enough money. So we, my brother, Henry, and myself, decided on a cheaper headstone and a good thing we did as I had a hard time getting in the means. I found people are not very enthusiastic about such things. However, we got it in and paid for which gave me quite a satisfaction."2
