Purpose/Relevance of Class Field Trips/Tours: “Rediscovering San Diego” is a feld trip class in which older adult students discover, explore, learn about and experience San Diego resources, as well as politically, culturally, historically, economically and educationally significant sites and venues within our community, first hand. Research is required prior to each visit and follow-up discussions are conducted during and after each class.

Course Goals:
- Students will be able to analyze and evaluate media reports, governmental pronouncements, and programs that may affect their lives.
- Students will think critically about the challenges and issues in the world, locally, regionally, and globally, and feel confident in reflecting on solutions to those problems.
- Students will understand the various types of media and information received about the world and will feel comfortable in reviewing multiple sources for a well-rounded understanding.
Course Objectives:
- Discuss issues and challenges that have occurred on various governmental levels and evaluate how they affect him/her.
- Discuss and evaluate the impact of future trends in domestic and international areas of world interest and concern.
- Discuss and evaluate the impact of United States foreign policy and matters of public interest.
- Discuss the relationship of domestic and international affairs.
- Improve his/her evaluation of printed and electronic media reporting.
- Recognize the different sources of media reporting on social issues.
- Weigh different spins in world stories and think critically about each perspective and the facts.
- Examine learned techniques to analyze world problems for lifelong learning about these world issues.
- Judge learned information and hold conversations with individuals outside the classroom about the events and happenings in the local, regional, national, and global environment.
