🎾 WEEK 11 – MATCH-ORIENTED TRAINING

Playing under pressure

Incorporating scoring into your decisions

Controlling your emotions

WEEK 11 – NET-SPECIFIC ADVANCED. Here we focus on advanced net shots: Bajada, Gancho, and control volleys, so players can truly finish points and maintain pressure.

🎯 MAIN OBJECTIVE WEEK 11

Players can execute advanced net shots (Bajada, Gancho, Control volley) with correct positioning, timing, and tactical choice to effectively finish points.

📚 PLAYER LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Recognize and correctly execute Bajada and Gancho

Play volleys with control, low ball, pressure on the opponent

Optimize positioning at the net (wide support surface, low stance)

Improve timing and footwork for advanced shots

Recovery after shots and maintain team agreements

Make tactical choices visible: finish the shot, maintain pressure, build neutrally

🎓 TRAINEE LEARNING OBJECTIVE

Recognize the correct moment for an advanced shot (observe + decide)

Apply GRASS: Grip, Point of Contact, Arm Action, Stance

Name a maximum of 3 technical/tactical points of attention per player

Keep coaching short and specific

Have players reflect on shot choice and results

📍 TRAINING 1 – OBSERVE + ASSIST (2 hours)

1️⃣ Observation Assignment

Observe 2 players at the net:

OBSERVE

Recognize player's lob height suitable for Bajada / Gancho?

Is your positioning correct (wide support base, weight forward, knees slightly bent)?

DECIDE

Do you choose Bajada, Gancho, or a controlled volley?

Direction: diagonal, opponent's feet, glass?

EXECUTE

Point of contact high and in front of the body

Arm action compact for Bajada/Gancho

Volleys low and controlled

REPORT

Point made or pressure built up?

Recovery correct after the shot?

Are team agreements visible?

2️⃣ Drill – Advanced Net Review

Setup:

Coach plays a lob to the net player

Assignment:

For high ball: Bajada or Gancho

For low ball: a controlled volley

10 repetitions per player

Coaching phrases:

“Step in, stay compact.”

“Bajada: diagonal, Gancho: past the opponent.”

“Volley: low and controlled.”

"Immediate recovery after impact."

Observation (max. 3 points)

High point of contact utilized

Compact arm action

Correct recovery position

📍 TRAINING 2 – ADVANCED NET TECHNIQUE (2 hours)

Warm-up

Back rally form → lob → Bajada / Gancho / Volley at the net

Focus: timing, balance, direction

Coaching:

"Enter and stay low."

"Compact arm action."

"Choose tactically: diagonal or past the opponent."

Core 1 – Applying GRASS to Bajada/Gancho/Volley

GRIP Continental/Eastern depending on the shot

POINT OF INTERFACE High in front of the body

ARM ACTION Compact, focused, upwards for Gancho/Bajada

STANCE Wide support surface, weight forward, knees slightly bent

Drill: Direction & Control

Coach plays lob/high ball to player:

Bajada diagonally to corner

Gancho past opponent/glass

Volley low and controlled

Recover to net position immediately after shot

Coaching phrases:

“Bajada: diagonal, compact.”

“Gancho: past opponent, timing is important.”

“Volley: low, control over power.”

“Recover immediately.”

Common mistakes

❌ Standing too far from the ball

❌ Swinging too far with Bajada/Gancho

❌ Ball too high or too flat

❌ Forgotten recovery

Correction:

“Stepping in, high point of contact.”

“Compact arm action.”

“Keep control above power.”

“Immediately return to net position.”

📍 TRAINING 3 – TACTICAL CHOICE NET-SPECIFIC (2 hours)

Theme: Finishing the point with an advanced shot

Drill – Decision Moment:

Coach alternates between lob and high ball

Player announces before the shot: “Bajada / Gancho / Volley”

After the rally: Analyze shot choice and result

Focus: Observe → Decide → Execute → Feedback

Coaching:

“Choose tactically: finish the point or maintain pressure.”

“Be conscious of direction and timing.”

"Always recover immediately."

📊 WEEK 11 – TRAINEE REFLECTION

What went well?

Players recognize Bajada/Gancho moments

Compact arm action visible

Volleys played in a controlled manner

Coaching: short and specific

What could be improved?

Direction more consistently to the feet/diagonal

Execute recovery more quickly

Utilize variation in hitting power even better

📷 Visual reference: Advanced Net Play

Note:

High point of contact

Compact arm action

Low volleys

Recovery after hitting

🧠 What does the examiner look for in week 11?

✔ Player chooses the correct advanced shot

✔ Grass applied correctly

✔ Recovery after hitting visible

✔ Coaching: short and specific, maximum 3 points

✔ Tactical choices visible

✔ Realistic pressure
