According to the 1851 census, John Mirehouse was a hatter born in Maryport, Cumberland, about 1796. The only christening record I could find was seven miles away in Dean, where John s/o George Mirehouse & Mary Head was christened on Mar 25, 1793.
John Mirehouse married Margaret about 1818
Their eldest daughter, Mary Ann, was born in Workington during January 1819.
By 1823, the family had moved 33 miles away to Cockermouth. Margaret gave birth to 9 children there, before she was buried at Cockermouth on 27 Apr 1838.
John Mirehouse is listed as a hatter in his daughter Sarah's 1845 marriage certificate.
He was a "Hatter Finisher" living with his daughter Jane, and her husband John Eland, on St Helens Street, Cockermouth, when the 1851 census was taken. John's 16-year-old daughter Harriet Mirehouse, a Flax mill worker, was also living with them.
He is most likely the John Mirehouse who was buried in Cockermouth on 7 Aug 1864.
