Marriage Certificate, 7 Oct 1861, All Saints Church, Elton, Lancashire, John Fairclough, 29, bachelor, labourer, of Elton, son of William Fairclough, blacksmith; married to Mary Lawson, 24, spinster, of Elton, daughter of Richard Lawson, hatter. John signed his name; Mary made her mark. Witnesses were James Fairclough (John's brother), who made his mark, and Alice Carrahar, who signed. His father in law Richard Lawson (52) was a hatter. Birth Certificate, 23 Aug 1870, 33 Doctors Lane, Bury, Margaret Ann, daughter of John Fairclough, labourer at a chemical works, and MaryFairclough, formerly Lawson. The 1881 census taken at Bury lists a 48 year old laborer of this name who was born in Wigan His wife Mary was from Elton and their eldest child was born there in 1863. By 1867 they were in Bury.
