The work consists of the combination of the prize for composition, received by the author when was child, with the original in white of a diploma at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, at the time of Leopold II (very rare specimen).
The work faces the problem of identity: in childhood and adolescence we try to build it – the prize for composition – and then we lose it by continuing the studies –the blank diploma of SNS – or achieving a social role.
The work also reminds us how nobody has the right to certify the knowledge, since there is no first certifier to certify the second certifier, and so on.
The conventionality of the act is eclipsed by the estoppel social value of the certificate (without the certificate is not possible to have access to the role).
Who is really animated by a passion for knowledge has no interest in the evaluation of others, nor for its certification.
Anyone who does, sacrifice the main objective of this wonderful experience.
Addressing the arduous path of knowledge aims to be profoundly changed at the end of the trip, not to obtain third party confirmation of having lived.
Perhaps some clarifications are necessary.
The relational artwork is arising from normal course of life without a prior specific intention to create it. It was not born on the basis of an abstract rational decision with aesthetic pretensions, but the randomness of the occurrence of events that have led us to become familiar with them until transcend their perception. We believe, illuminating the common experience of renewed innocence of interpretation, we are open, almost automatically, to the artistic dimension. Seeking the understanding like a child we winning the sense of life building the categories to generate it.
