Using Bookmarks

By Sandra Schloen, May 2013

OCHRE allows you to bookmark an item so that you can find it, view it, or navigate to it easily and quickly. Bookmarks are saved between sessions so all of your bookmarks will be available after you logout and return in a new session.

To bookmark an item, select the item in the navigation pane then click the appropriate bookmark button on the toolbar. You can create either a standard bookmark (use the button with the green star icon) or a persistent bookmark (use the button with the red star icon).

Standard Bookmarks

A standard bookmark provides a simple reference to an item without giving any additional privileges to that item.

Persistent Bookmarks

A persistent bookmark provides reference to the bookmarked item and also imposes a claim on that item on behalf of the current user. This claim will ensure that no other user will be able to gain edit access to this item. This exclusive claim will persist between sessions, effectively locking out all other users.

Viewing Bookmarks

Active bookmarks are listed in toolbars below the navigation pane. The toolbar with the green star lists standard bookmarks. The toolbar with the red star lists persistent bookmarks. Click and drag a toolbar to remove it from the location and allow it to hover in its own window.

Navigate to the bookmarked item by clicking on its corresponding icon. Alternatively, Shift-click the item's icon to display the item in a pop-up window.

Bookmarks are also listed on OCHRE's main menu bar.

Removing Bookmarks

To remove a bookmark, simply return to the bookmarked item and click the bookmark button that corresponds to the bookmark type. This will toggle off the bookmark.

To remove all bookmarks of a given type, click the left-most button of the appropriate bookmark toolbar. This will prompt you to confirm removal, then will remove all bookmarks of that type.

Project Administrator Override of Persistent Bookmarks

Project administrators have the ability to override persistent bookmarks that have been created by other project users. A project administrator can view a list of all persistent bookmarks by clicking on the button whose icon displays the lock-with-question mark.

This will create a list of items having persistent bookmarks in the Query Results pane. Additionally, an "Administrator Override" button will become available. The Project Administrator should then choose the "Checklist" display format in order to see which users have created the persistent bookmarks, and when they were created. The Project Administrator can choose the items to be released by checking them "on" in the checklist. The "Administrator Override" button will then perform the removal of the bookmarks from the selected items. Note that, ideally, this should be done when the user who has the persistent claim on the item is not logged in to OCHRE.

Project Administrator Override of Transient Claims

A project administrator might find in the list of "claimed" items, those that have only transient claims applied. This would not happen under normal conditions, but may happen if, for example, there had been a power failure causing OCHRE to terminate unexpectedly. Under any circumstances where OCHRE is not shut down cleanly, there may be open claims on items that are not properly closed.

Note that a transient claim on a item typically means that a user is, in fact, currently editing the item so any override of these items should be done with due caution.
