Windows Updates

Particularly with Windows 10 and following, we strongly recommend disabling Windows updates altogether on your field computers running offline OCHRE. Otherwise, the offline session creation and restoring will be regularly competing with background updates since Windows tends to push updates and run background processes frequently.

• From the Start Menu, search for Services. From the list that is generated, scroll down to the bottom and select Windows Updates.

Choose Disabled from the list. If the process is already running Stop it. At the end of the season you can set this back to the Manual or Automatic setting, but in the meantime you will not be inconvenienced by the regular updating that is likely to happen by default.

Store Updates of Apps

We also strongly recommend that you turn off the option to update Apps automatically. There is no need for Candy Crush and Minesweeper to be updating invisibly over an Internet hotspot onsite while you are trying to upload your OCHRE work for the day. To do this, go to the Store and click the Person-icon to the left of the Search bar for the menu which includes Settings. Turn Off the setting to Update apps automatically. This defaults ON. We cannot emphasize strongly enough how problematic this might be otherwise, unless you have unrestricted, high-speed Internet.
