Pre-configured Queries

Project Administrators, or experienced power users, can pre-configure queries in the "back-end" of OCHRE and make them available to users on the "front-end." This provides a flexible way to expose powerful queries to users who do not have the access or the know-how to do it themselves.

Start by creating a Query hierarchy in the Queries category and designating it as the one to be used for displaying pre-configured queries on the front-end. Make sure the Preferences of the hierarchy do NOT specify "Keep this item private" (it must be public).

Configure "front-end" queries

Within the Query hierarchy created above, insert query items in the usual way, specifying Criteria as needed. We encourage the use of Headings in the hierarchy to organize queries into logical groups. The hierarchy will be formatted and displayed on the Queries tab. [Alternatively, it could be linked in on a front-end Presentation (not discussed here).]

Pre-configured Queries

When a user selects a query from this list it will be presented in a more user-friendly way. Options not preset on the back-end will be available for selection on the front-end. This is how the Properties pane of the query Find LEMMA by Part of Speech is pre-configured on the back end. Note that the Operator and the Value of the Part of Speech property is left unassigned.

Here is how it is presented to the user. Notice that the Operator and Value fields become options that can be filled in by the user since they were not pre-assigned when the query was configured.

As shown above, ordinary queries can be pre-configured for the simplified front-end view simply by leaving operators and other selections unassigned. But there are a number of other ways to pre-configure queries to be used through a public or front-end presentation that provide additional features.
