Most of the images were taken with the Slooh Canary Island Two telescope It mounts two cameras, one WF, with a 43x43 arcminute field and the other,UWF, with a 107x73 arcminute field. I found the UWF camera the most useful for this observing program.
I've done my best to indicate the asterism in the images below. Sometimes, it was easy; other times, not so much. Ramakers' book shows the asterism in a circle, usually one degree. Reading the AL's description and looking at the circle doesn't always turn up the target, so many times I duplicated the circle. For some targets, I would have needed to by Sue French's $35 book or try to buy old issues of Sky & Telescope. I chose to do neither. Other targets produced no hits with Google, so I read the AL description and just guessed after plate-solving verified the field. My favorite was when one asterism Google showed only one result...that of my friend Mike Hotka who did the OP with sketches back in 2012.
Back when the Asterism Observing Program first came out, I thought I'd take a stab at it. I sketched seven targets, two with a telescope and five of the naked eye asterisms.
I quickly became disillusioned, realizing it was really difficult star hopping to a target that I had no clue of what it really looked like. I abandoned the OP, stuck the sketches in a folder, and said maybe someday. Eventually, imaging was allowed, but not knowing the field and being unable to do GoTos didn't sound encouraging either.
In March 2025, GoTos and remote scopes were added to the requirements, and I quickly started working on the OP. I went back to my twelve-year-old folder and pulled out the two telescope sketches: #1 Keystone and #101 Coathanger.
