(Perihelion #22 – December 24, 2024)
I did complete the first Parker Solar Probe special observing award so I qualify for only a certificate. My email address is sboerner@charter.net
Outreach Activities
Ten minute presentation to the DigitalSIG group of the Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri on November 19, 2024 . Twelve people tuned into the Zoom meeting with about ½ being ASEM members. Note that I am not an ASEM member.
I posted information about the Parker 2.0 Special Award the 240+ members of StlAstro.groups.io after it was announced on the Astronomical League’s web site. I am one of the STlAstro group moderators.
My image taken from my back yard through the trees.
This time of year you have to grab the Sun when you can, An hour later the sky clouded over.
This is a single image with no additional post processing.
My SeeStar S50 runs in Alt/Az so solar directions depend on observation time.
Solar directions are from Tilting Sun.
Conditions were a cloudless, clear blue sky. The Sun was 15 degrees above the horizon.
Location of the probe at the time of observation:
The angle between the probe, Sun and Earth at the time of observation is about 85 degrees.
The Probe sees the part of the Sun to the left of the blue line.
There were mixed clouds and Sun on 12/19 so Solar imaging would have been possible.
The long-range forecast for the rest of the year is on the right. Seeing the Sun doesn't look too promising.
