Throughout the year, we have seen several accomplishments in Nyack Athletics, with athletes shattering record mile times and reaching one thousand career points on the basketball court. Recently, sophomore lacrosse player Kate Gould reached an important milestone, scoring one hundred varsity career goals.
Dribbling their way to an amazing start was the boys basketball team. They won the Howard Godwin Tournament in Sleepy Hollow on December 3rd, soundly defeating Ossining and Henry Hudsonn by ten-point margins with many meaningful contributions, including those from Juniors Raydelh Boutin and Gabe Walker, both selected for the all-tournament team. No contribution was more important than that of Xavier Jules, who won tournament MVP. Since then, the team is 2-0, beginning the season on a four game heater, riding high into their tilt vs Roosevelt in the Red and Black Tournament!
The 2022-23 season has been a memorable one so far for both the boys and girls basketball teams. Stouthearted efforts and a no-quit attitude have been the theme of the season for these teams. Coupled with clutch play as their hallmark, Nyack Basketball has made an admirable push towards a secured playoff spot. With both teams in the top 15 of Class A, with combined records of 20-15, the RedHawks are on the rise.
The leaves have changed and the wind has blown across Redhawk Nation, ushering in a new season; a new start for winter teams looking to pave their way towards a scintillating run to glory. But first, we wind back to take a look at the highlights of the 2022 Nyack Varsity Fall Season!
The fall Varsity season has gotten off to a fast start in Nyack! Each team has been competitive to begin the fall season, most notably both boys and girls soccer, as well as girls tennis, who recently came off dramatic wins this past week.Boys soccer has gotten off to one of their best starts in recent years, opening the season at 6-2. Currently, they are on a 4 game winning streak in which they have outscored their opponents 12-8, collecting wins over Rye, Pelham, Fox Lane, and Ramapo. However, the most dramatic win was last Tuesday, outlasting Rye 4-3 in double overtime thanks in part to a Xavier Kamba Hat Trick.
