Throughout the year, we have seen several accomplishments in Nyack Athletics, with athletes shattering record mile times and reaching one thousand career points on the basketball court. Recently, sophomore lacrosse player Kate Gould reached an important milestone, scoring one hundred varsity career goals.
Gould is the second Girls Lacrosse player to achieve the incredible feat in as many years. Senior Captain and UConn Women's Lacrosse commit Eve McGrogan reached the century mark last season.
Gould has amassed 35 goals so far this season, and an astonishing total of 116 in her varsity career. The sophomore midfielder has been an integral contributor to the Redhawks' potent offense, helping them in achieving their outstanding 7-1 record and to stake their claim as a top contender for a Section 1 championship.
On an unusually warm April evening, Gould started the scoring frenzy just seconds into the highly anticipated contest with county rival, North Rockland. While her first goal made history, Gould made her presence known all evening, cashing in six more in Nyack’s victory over the Red Raiders.
I had the opportunity to sit down and interview Gould.
When asked about future goals on the field, the level-headed Gould answered, “In terms of lacrosse, my goals for the immediate future are to keep working hard and having fun with my teammates. I think success comes more naturally when the team chemistry is high and everyone has fun working together. Our team has a lot of competitive games coming up, and we are looking to play tough and get big wins heading into the playoffs! The entire team has been very focused this season on achieving our goal."
Gould’s calm, naturally stoic presence is noticed not only among her teammates but also by her head coach, Kathryn Perrella. She spoke about Gould, proudly stating “ Kate is one of the hardest-working lacrosse players that I have ever had. She takes pride in everything she does and is always going 110%. She works all off-season on her skills, and it shows anytime you see her play. Kate's knowledge and love of lacrosse are evident every day in practice and in games, as she is laughing and smiling while playing and developing her skills. She is a true competitor and an overall amazing kid!”
