Silent No More: The SAG-AFTRA Strike Shakes Up Hollywood
The writers’ strike has been a topic of heated debate over the past few months as the misinformed public scoffs at the idea of millionaire movie stars asking for more money. However, the SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) strike stands up for those not under the global spotlight– struggling actors who work two jobs to pay the bills and underappreciated writers, half of whom get paid minimum wage.
Girl Dinner, Girl Math, Girl Haters
Social media platform, TikTok, has recently been the birthplace of two user created trends, one being “Girl Dinner” and the other “Girl Math.” Both, created all in good fun, might actually have incredibly negative effects on their viewers.

It’s October! And that means it’s football season!!! Did you know that we have our very own football star in our high school? History and criminal justice teacher, James Seifert, shared about his football history and advice he has for student athletes. Seifert played football at Nanuet High School where he was entered into their hall of fame, played through all four years of college, and coached at Nyack High School for three seasons. Although he doesn’t coach our football team anymore, he still loves to attend student sporting events.

In the depths of the Hudson Valley lies a village shrouded in darkness and steeped in legend. Sleepy Hollow, a place where reality intertwines with the supernatural, has a chilling story to unfold. This halloween season, Nyack high school will explore this tale with their production of “The Legend of the Sleepy Hollow” starring Asher Glass as Ichabod Crane, Haylie Christiano as Katrina Van Tassel, Sawyer Ploski as “Brom Bones” Van Brunt, Augie Davi-Fiendella as Baltus Van Tassel, Emma Van Dorpe as Hans Van Ripper, Brandon Rentezelas as Parson Van Houten, and many more talented actors.
February, 1692 an unholy mess was unveiled in a series of prosecutions, as people were accused of witchcraft. Many practicing Christians and members of alternate religions had strong beliefs that the devil could grant certain people power to do harm; witches. The witchcraft craze rippled through Europe from the 1300s to the 1600s. These cases continue to mesmerize and fascinate the 21st century.

Now that Starbucks is closed in Nyack, what better to do than to make your own homemade iced pumpkin latte! This recipe is perfect for fall–a cool crisp day, but not too cold where you never want to see an ice cube again. This drink is a perfect mix of pumpkin, spices, and sugar, but can be adjusted to fit your liking. A perfect day, for a perfect coffee. Trump in the Hot Seat: Inside the Indictment
Is former president Donald Trump rotting in a jail cell yet? Well not quite. Over the course of 2023, Trump was indicted four times, but what exactly does that mean? An indictment happens when the majority of a grand jury agrees that there is enough evidence to formally charge someone of a crime. With the indictment, the judge from a federal or state court chooses a date for the trial to begin, and the indictee will get their mugshot and fingerprints taken.
Breakthrough Update: Updated COVID-19 Vaccine Enhances Protection
As of September 14, 2023, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has continued to make decisive steps in the ongoing battle to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna mRNA updated vaccines; however, the updated protein vaccine by Novavax is still under review.

Our End of The Spectrum: Youth Votes are Vital
In the past few years, we’ve had to watch immense change happen on a federal level. Women are being persecuted and prosecuted for getting abortions since the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, the end of Affirmative Action, which has already limited opportunities for students of color, and the Willow Project having drastic effects on the environment. It’s so frustrating to sit and watch our futures be manipulated, without having any control. But we don’t have to.
