The Willow Project is an oil drilling operation of enormous scale set for Alaska’s North Slope in the National Petroleum Reserve. This area, owned by the federal government, can hold as much as 600 million barrels of oil.
The writers’ strike has been a topic of heated debate over the past few months as the misinformed public scoffs at the idea of millionaire movie stars asking for more money. However, the SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) strike stands up for those not under the global spotlight– struggling actors who work two jobs to pay the bills and underappreciated writers, half of whom get paid minimum wage.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, love isn’t the only thing on everyone’s mind. Consumerism also fills the air this holiday.
Every February, many Americans feel obligated to buy all kinds of material gifts for their loved ones. From chocolates to roses to stuffed animals, these tokens of affection are incredibly accessible to the average consumer as they are stocked in nearly every drugstore or home furnishing store for the duration of the month. Because of this, retailers are able to extensively profit from Valentine’s Day.
Beyoncé is the face of the 65th annual Grammy Awards, leading the race with nine nominations. Having received eighty-eight in her career, she is the most Grammy nominated artist in history, tied with husband Jay Z. Her album “Renaissance” is up for album of the year along with her hit song, “Break My Soul,” put forth for both song and record of the year.
As Thanksgiving approaches, families across the country are busy booking flights, pre-ordering turkeys, and reluctantly deciding which sides will make it on the dinner table this year and which will be left behind. To many, Thanksgiving is a celebratory occasion, one that offers comfort and reunion. When considering the history of the holiday, however, most people fail to recognize its true, dark past.
Chidiebere Ibe has become a sensation thanks to his revolutionary medical illustrations. After graduating with a degree in chemistry from University of Uyo, the twenty-five-year-old Nigerian medical student began working with Dr. Ulrick Sidney Kanmounye. While directing creative design at the Association of Future African Neurosurgeons, Ibe became interested in medical illustrations and spent a year learning to draw anatomy.
Are there more doors or wheels in the world? This seemingly arbitrary question sparked a heated debate on TikTok earlier in March. Users avidly chose sides, sharing their opinions on the topic. #TeamDoors has thus far received over 55 million views on the app, but #TeamWheels takes the lead with a massive 137 million views. Whether the world has more doors or wheels may remain forever unknown, but students at Nyack still have their own thoughts to contribute to the debate.
After nearly two years of enduring COVID-19, there’s no doubt people are eager to celebrate the holiday season this year. We all deserve to enjoy our festivities in the coming months, but with global climate change and the multitude of environmental issues the world faces today, it is very important that we keep sustainability in mind. Over a million tons of wastes are created each week between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. The holidays are certainly bad for the environment, but there are many ways to be eco-friendly as a consumer.
