The fall Varsity season has gotten off to a fast start in Nyack! Each team has been competitive to begin the fall season, most notably both boys and girls soccer, as well as girls tennis, who recently came off dramatic wins this past week. Boys soccer has gotten off to one of their best starts in recent years, opening the season at 6-2. Currently, they are on a four game winning streak in which they have outscored their opponents 12-8, collecting wins over Rye, Pelham, Fox Lane, and Ramapo. However, the most dramatic win was last Tuesday, outlasting Rye 4-3 in double overtime thanks in part to a Xavier Kamba Hat Trick.
Girls Soccer also recently earned a huge victory last week, defeating Peekskill 3-2 in double overtime on a Kelcey McGoldrick game winner, and also in part to two goals scored by 8th grader Jayda Johnson!
The wins kept coming in Redhawk Nation, especially for the girls tennis team, who soundly defeated North Rockland in a 7-0 sweep on September 14th, followed by an amazing comeback this past Wednesday to defeat Clarkstown North at home, thanks to victories from Yelina Arias, Alyssa Lundberg, Quinn Dabney, and Kate Gould!
From the court to the field, Nyack has continued their mastery over the Rams, as field hockey recently won 5-0 over North. Emily Fidalgo scored two goals while Margaret Palmer, Kayla Crai, and Adriana Gleeson all cashed in with goals of their own to help secure the shutout.
On the Gridiron, the Redhawk Football Team has battled until the very end, dropping the first two home games by only one touchdown. With 18 seniors and the leadership of newly appointed head coach, Dan Berkowitz, they hope to change fortunes.
Another coaching change has made for some adversity for the section runner-up Nyack Volleyball team. However, they are determined to make a push despite slow sledding, having dropped five of their first seven contests.
Cross Country has seen incredible strides from top performers such as Luke Roy, who has placed first in the 5k course, twice in the season so far, At the Suffern Invitational on September 17th, all 17 athletes ran either a personal or season best all time
Endurance has been tested in the pool, but the Redhawks have prevailed. They are undefeated, backboned by Junior and all-state qualifier Cornelia Fox, along with Abby Mack, and Madison Milla who are close to qualifying for sections.
It has been an action packed month of September, and will only get more exciting with October and playoff season on the horizon. Let's Go Nyack!
