11th and 12th grade English courses are designed to prepare you for the rigor and complexity of college-level work. Readings and assignments are often challenging, and it is important to take action early if you are having difficulty in class.
Use the course website to review lessons plans, slides & assignment details.

Take notes during class. Note-taking is an important skill that you will need to master for success in college, and it will help you remember important concepts and instructions. The following resources provide more tips and information on note-taking strategies:
Effective Note-Taking Tips & Strategies - helpful tips and 5 strategies for note-taking, presented by California State University Maritime Academy
Effective Note-Taking in Class - from University of North Carolina
For assignments:
Turn in completed assignments on time. This ensures that you will be prepared for the next class period.
Review the rubric that will be used for grading the assignment -- this will give you an indication of the score your work will likely receive.
Be sure to save your document in your Writing Portfolio folder AND attach it to the assignment in Google Classroom and submit it.
Paper documents must be scanned and submitted as a PDF document (not an image). Please make sure the quality of your scan is professional.
Check PowerSchool for a list of upcoming assignments so that you know what will be due and when.

Try to keep up with assignments when you have to miss class (I understand that this is not always possible, but if you can, it will make it easier for you to succeed in class)
Ask if your student has any homework that needs to be completed. I don't often assign homework, but sometimes I do allow students to finish classwork at home. Classwork should be completed before the start of class the next day. This allows students to get the most out of class.
Ensure that your student has access to a quiet area that is free from distractions. Reading and writing both take a lot of concentration and focus.
If your student is having difficulty with assignments, review the lesson slides and assignment instructions together. Lesson slides are available on the course website (see above).
