Home Sweet Home

Our new house (we moved in August 2001) is in the commune of Le Tignet and is only just within reasonable commuting distance of the school where we were working (the CIV) - just under 30 minutes when all goes well (and 45 minutes or more when it doesn't..).

Le Tignet is just west of Grasse (the 'world capital of perfume') as you can see on this map:

Le Tignet is 25 minutes' drive from the coastal city of Cannes and about 45 minutes from downtown Nice (35 minutes from the airport). St. Tropez and Monaco (Monte Carlo) are about 90 minutes away, and Aix-en-Provence, Marseilles, Venice, and Milan are all within a few hours’ drive. Beautiful, rather unspoilt Corsica is easily reached on the ferry from Nice. Enough hype!

This is what you'll see from the front gate, if you're lucky enough to be invited to our place one day...

The living room opens onto a terrace which faces south over a beautiful garden.

Another view of the terrace, looking towards the POOL...

The house was built in 1975 but seems healthy enough. The plot is big, 3000 m² and the house is around 160 m².

The plot is on a slope, very quiet and with plenty of trees. There are great views south towards the coastal mountain range called the Esterel. The pool is about 9m x 4.5m x 2.25m, a good size.

On the left below, a picture looking up the side of the house. The 'belles de nuit' only open in the late afternoon, but when they do, they bring a little welcome colour. On the right below, the living room.

The bathroom... no... wait... this must be the kitchen...

Looking up at the house from the south side of the garden.

Click HERE to see Le Tignet under thick snow, a rare phenomenon which we enjoyed in January 2005.

Below is a beautiful high-resolution (slow-loading) picture of our location, taken looking north from Le Tanneron, a village at 310m (1000 ft) altitude, 5km south of our house. The photo shows some of the local mountains, including the Cime de Cheiron (1778m, 5870ft) which is 22km (14 miles) from our house as the crow flies or about 90km (55 miles, 90 minutes) by road. Gréolieres-les-Neiges, a popular cross-country ski resort, lies just beyond this mountain. The Montagne de Lachens (1715m, 5660ft) is easier to reach, but I don't know what the skiing options are there.
