In March 2006 we were tired of Brussels rain and snow and did what thousands of Belgians do at this time of the year - fly off in search of some Senegalese sunshine. Senegal is a smallish country (population 11 million, 95% Muslim and 5% Christian) in north-west Africa - it's the westernmost country on the African continent. A six hour flight took us to Dakar and a further two hour drive through flat, parched and uninspiring countryside took us on to our rather nice hotel in Saly, 90 km south of the capital.
