Agriculture and Farming

Professor Clements noted that agriculture practices varied widely over the world. There were some locations that used large autonomous machines to seed, harvest and otherwise manage the crops. There were also many places where many smaller robots were utilized and quite a few places where micro-machines (the size of insects) were used.

The crops bore a striking resemblance to our own but were genetically modified. There were a few other crops, which did not seem to be grass based, which were also grown and managed on larger farms. Nearly all the fields had more than one crop growing at the same time. Some had as many as four or five species on the same field at the same time. The use of complex machines and artificial intelligence allowed the machines to manage and harvest these.

Fruit on their planet is much more varied and several distinct strains of genetically engineered varieties also exist.

Animals are farmed, much like here, but not intensively. Although meat is available it is generally expensive.
