COURSE CONTENT INFORMATION
Catalog description:
A survey of literature for young adults. This course will examine a range of works. Students will be expected to analyze and discuss assigned works.
Prerequisites:
ENGL 1010 with a grade of “C” or better.

A survey of literature for young adults. This course will examine a range of works. Students will be expected to analyze and discuss assigned works.
Course Objectives:
After successfully completing this course, students should be able to:
Identify common characteristics of the genre.
Identify trends over time of the genre.
Identify major works and authors, as well as give summaries of works, covered in the course.
Analyze in writing and discussion the works covered in the course.

Evaluation Criteria
Grading Scale:
Grades will be determined using percentages. Assignments are weighted; therefore, assignment points may not correspond with percentages. Check grades on PowerSchool regularly.
100-90%: A
89-80: B
79-70: C
69-60: D
59-0: F
Late Assignments, Projects, and Tests:
I expect you to have your homework with you the day it is due. Online assignments will not be accepted late. I will only accept late classwork for regular English if you have an excused absence or we’ve made special arrangements.
Incomplete Grades, Withdrawals, and Plagiarism:
Incomplete Grades, Withdrawals, and plagiarism guidelines are outlined in the EWC Catalog.
Students may not reuse any papers they have written for this class or other classes during the current or previous semesters. All submitted assignments must be original pieces of writing for the assignment.
Cheating or presenting another’s work as your own will not be tolerated. All assignments should be representative of your own ability and effort, and are not group/partner exercises unless otherwise noted. You also may not use course material on exams/quizzes unless specifically noted.
Using information from internet or print sources without acknowledging the original source is plagiarism. Any student found to be engaging in academic dishonesty will be subject to dismissal from the course and a grade of “F.” Please review the Academic Dishonesty section of the catalog. If you have any questions regarding what is or is not academic dishonesty, please ask. Writing papers for others is academic dishonesty, and can result in expulsion from the college, even if you are not registered in the course.
Standards for Written Works/Projects:
We will learn both MLA & APA format for papers and presentations
Policy for extra credit:
Extra credit may be offered under special circumstances
Classroom Expectations:
Attend every class session ready to discuss course readings
No phones during class
Do not have side conversations
Bring appropriate materials to each class session (textbooks, journals, paper, writing utensil)
Take notes and show engagement
Check the website regularly to ensure timely submission of all work.
Discussion will be done online through Google Classroom
If you miss class, you are still responsible for ALL information covered on that day and any assignments are due prior to leaving unless absence is unplanned, then you will have one day upon your return. Use the schedule and your classmates as resources on what you missed.
