A geek is a person who is knowledgeable about and obsessively interested in a particular subject, especially one that is technical or of specialist or niche interest, and engages in or discusses technical or computer-related tasks obsessively or with great attention to detail. However, a key difference is that geeks are enthusiastic fans of a specific subject, often collecting related items and sharing their passion in groups. While nerds are intellectual enthusiasts focused on mastering a topic, sometimes to the exclusion of social activities, a geek is more like a "collector" of facts and memorabilia. In contrast, a nerd is an "achiever" focused on knowledge and skill acquisition.
