Jainism makes up approximately 0.4% of the world's population, and there are between 6 and 7 million Jains worldwide. This religion dates back to 3000 BC in the Ganges basin of eastern India.
The Jainism teachings come from a sacred book called Agams or Agam Sutras, these teach that the path to enlightenment is through nonviolence and by reducing harm to all living things (including plants and animals) as much as possible. Like Hindus and Buddhists, Jains believe in reincarnation and that a person's karma determines this cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.
