Islam originated in 610 CE during the time of the prophet Muhammad in Mecca, modern-day Saudi Arabia. It is divided into Sunni Islam, which makes up roughly 87–90%, and Shia Islam, which makes up 10–13%. There are approximately 180–230 million people in Islam, or about 1.7 billion people worldwide.
Muslims read from the holy book called the Qur'an, which teaches about the Oneness of Allah. Muslims believe in one all-knowing God, the creator of all things, and God's revelations or the Day of Judgment. They also believe that all prophets share the same message of monotheism. Muslims also believe in God's angels and fate, an event destined to happen, turn out or act in a particular way, or the development of events beyond a person's control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power.
