Nearpod Lesson

What is Nearpod?

Nearpod is a service that allows teachers to create engaging, organized, and informative instruction. Teachers can use normal slides to add written content, but they can also include virtual field trips, virtual simulations, videos, and audio. In addition to be able to create instruction, teachers can include different types of formative assessments in their lessons in the form of quizzes, matching, draw-it activities, and collaboration boards.

How does this tie into the Danielson Framework?

Nearpod ties directly into Domain 3, as it allows teachers to create instruction that can meet the needs of any student. The teacher can include different discussion and questioning techniques, which fall under aspect 3b. Lessons can be very engaging if the teacher takes advantage of all that Nearpod has to offer, which would show aspect 3c. Quizzes and other types of formative assessment show that the teacher is using assessment in instruction (3d). During the lesson, the teacher can easily adapt to the students' needs which clearly showcases aspect 3e. Teachers can see their students' responses, which allows them to communicate with the students that may be struggling (3a).

How would I use Nearpod in my classroom?

In my current classroom, Nearpod was not instructionally appropriate to use. However, if I were in a classroom where this teaching tool would be appropriate, I would use Nearpod to create unique, informative, and engaging instruction. I would take advantage of all the instructional tools that Nearpod has to offer to make sure that my students are engaged in the material. To make sure that students understand the content, I would include many different types of formative assessment.
