2023-2024 School Year

During the 2023-2024 school year I had the privilege of being an intervention specialist for mathematics in grades 4-6 at Mount Airy Elementary School.  In this role I worked with a caseload of about 35 students and their math goals. My students this year have been very witty and dedicated learners who were so much fun to teach. I look forward to teaching some of them next year!

Strengths:

All of my students are very unique individuals.  Getting to know them and their personalities has been very valuable.  All of my students are hard workers when they are engaged in meaningful learning.  They all create very interesting solutions to solve problems, which is always interesting to watch.  My students are excellent at working collaboratively and enjoy each others' company.  Some of my students are very artistically inclined, others are very talented at teaching their friends, while others are very good at comprehending problems and working to solve them.

Needs:

All of my students were labeled as either Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), Other Health Impairments (OHI), Emotional Disturbance (ED), or Intellectual Disability (ID). With these labels come different challenges whether it be academic struggles, challenging behaviors, cognitive impairments, or attention deficits.  My job is to help students make growth despite these difficulties.  Sometimes it is easier than others, but it is always rewarding to see my students grow and succeed!

In the following pages you will find some highlights from this year.  There is a sample IEP goal and objectives, some curriculum excerpts, my thoughts on flexible seating, and different ways that I engage students in learning.  Click on the buttons below to go straight to the pages.
