What are Google Forms?
Google Forms is a service that allows teachers to make surveys or quizzes online. The teacher can add all sorts of different types of questions including matching, short answer, true/false, and multiple choice. After the students take the assessment, the teacher can easily see the results. Google Forms can also be used to collect data in a quick and efficient manner. The teacher can create a simple form with questions about the data to be collected. Google Forms then allows you to create a spreadsheet of responses which allows you to collect all of your data into one spreadsheet with just the click of a button. Typically, I link the form to a QR code so that I can access my Google Forms quickly and efficiently.
Where does this fit into the Framework?
I put this Form under Domain 3 (Instruction) because Google Forms can be used so widely in instruction. They can be used as a way to get to know the students or know how the students feel about the topic that they just learned about. The forms can also be used as an efficient way to collect data (3a). Of course, this also fits directly into component 3d (using assessment in instruction) because that’s what Google Forms is all about: creating assessments to better instruction or to collect data to drive instruction.
How do I use Google Forms in my classroom?
I have used Google Forms nearly daily in my classroom. If I do not use pen and paper, I utilize Google Forms to ensure that I can collect my data quickly, efficiently, and keep a record of data that will be easily accessible. Below is an example of a Google Form and spreadsheet that I would use for data collection using a fake student and fake data.
