Parent communication is pivotal to having a classroom that runs smoothly. It also makes sure that parents can be involved in their student's education as much as possible. To facilitate the home-school relationship, I implemented a weekly newsletter that I would send to parents so that they could follow along with their student's learning. This would include examples of what we did, how to utilize any models that we were learning, and some practice problems for the students to do with their parents. I made sure to translate the newsletter into any languages necessary for optimal accessibility. The newsletter was then sent home digitally over our district platform called TalkingPoints to eliminate the need for students to be responsible for newsletters. I also made sure that the activities included in the newsletter needed as few materials as possible so that they were as easy to facilitate at home as possible. Below is an example of one of our weekly newsletters.
In addition to newsletters, I attempt to make sure that I send home at least 1 positive message per student every quarter/midterm. This really helps boost the student's confidence, engagement, and participation. It also is so nice for the parents to hear positive feedback about their child and really helps to foster that home-school relationship.
