This is a fabulous, primitive fish found both in Asia, and in South America. It has lungs, and lives in fresh water. It has a pouch in its mouth where it incubates its young. In a photograph, when the mouth opens and the young swim out, it looks like one of those amphibious landing craft vessels. One of its South American relatives is one of the largest freshwater fish, reaching 4.5 meters. These fish are popular in the aquarium trade, but a very large tank is needed. I made this fish out of a large slab.
