I meant for this piece to metaphorically sum up what I learned from Bruce. The piece is made in three parts, the body and the two wings. I did this because the forces on the cantilevered wings would break them off almost immediately, but also because the pieces are symbolic for me. The plain body of the fish represents my views on what a potter does when I arrived in Bruce’s studio. A potter is someone who makes lovely bowls, mugs, jars, vases, plates, and teapots. Bruce taught me that a potter is someone who makes anything they want to out of clay. I continue to learn how many kinds of things a potter can make.
