Australia Day Carnival 2019

The KMAC club in Melbourne celebrated Australia Day with a Carnival event in which you flew whatever you decided to bring. There was a varied collection of stunt models, carrier, team race, speed and combat models put through their paces.

It was a day of pleasant flying conditions and other than a few repairable damages to com- bat models we all managed to go home with our models in one piece.

Thanks Harry and ACLN for the words

Around The Field

Just so as not to get caught short on the day, President Reeve Marsh, brought along a few models. From top to bottom. A McFarland Ruffy, Hellcat Carrier Deck, Keil Kraft Spectre and a Top Flite Tutor II. The Tutor ARF was a donation to the club which Reeve has put together with the view for those club members to use in learning stunt patterns.

This is Dave Nobes scratch built Tempest from a modified Kookaburra plan. Not an easy wing to build straight with all the compound curves. Nicely finished and a good flyer. See below for Dave's own designed Calypso.

Col Colyer enjoys the challenge of building and flying model aircraft of all disciplines. Here are the ones he showcased today.

This is an electric Stilletto with a few mods to make it look not like a block of flats !. Originally from Robin H, with a ST46, now with a RSM electric system, 46 size

This is a 40 size ARF Ultimate biplane with a locally sourced motor. This time fitted with rc for throttle, using a buggy controller for both throttle via the trigger, and as a c/l handle via a few attachments for the wires. Early days yet but it looks like it will be fun. Quite aerobatic.

This red biplane started with a Clause Makis Duetto plan, with the tail surfaces modified to look like a Marquis Charger. Took a while to build due to interruptions, and has been quite challenging to trim. Still at the wings level stage. Powered again by a RSM 46 package. The motor package is plug and play and is flawless.

Here is an own design by Dave Nobes with a thin wing section for windy days. Dave has named this model his Calypso. He considers this his best performing model in his fleet. Strong statement from someone who knows what it takes.

A move to the dark side

Well known vintage combat flyer Tony Caselli has decided to have a go at stunt. His Fox 35 powered Nobler when tuned with a little help from his friends performed admirably. Just needs to shake out some the combat inputs into the pattern and he could be a force to be reckoned with.

Here are Derek Pickard' s Vector 40 and Steve Vallve's Shark Hybrid and Demon flying wing on the flight line. Derek playing silly buggers with his LA 40 painting the head to look like a Merco red head, perhaps this was just the way he bought it.

Steve's Shark hybrid needs a slightly bigger tank for the LA 46 which runs out at 5mins 40 secs. Still a more capable model than the pilot. The refurb of the model came in a tad heavy , doesn't it often!
