Doncaster Invitation and KMAC Carnival

The the original intention of this invitation day was to encourage building and flying of novelty model aircraft. As a club, Doncaster has a tradition and a fine array models that fitted the bill, however no one in KMAC seemed to want to explore that path. Consequently the format of the day has been modified to promote a light hearted Rat Race competition for .15 size engines. The club has three models which it supplies to maintain a level standard with competition coming down to the skill of the pitman and pilot. The event has provided a lot of good laughs and no one takes it too seriously.

A more recent twist has been the introduction of an event we call Pluck a Duck which has it's roots in carrier deck flying. The object is to rescue a duck which is suspended on a string between two poles using the hook of a carrier deck plane. It is more challenging than it sounds.

Today was also the day that we had set aside to landscape the surrounds of the toilet thanks to funds provided by the Knox Council. Steve purchased a variety of ground covers, low plants and small shrubs from the local landcare nursery during the week and drew up a plan for the planting. Daryl and Margaret Smailes volunteered to oversee the planting with assistance of Bruce, Peter Byrne, John K and Noel.

Thanks for your help!

RATTIES

Six teams were assembled from a draw to mix it up a little. There were a number of novice participants to the event this time around so rules needed to be explained, although not too many were taking it in, being too busy worrying whether they were the pilot or the pitman. It was a good start to getting people to know one another.

The winning pair received a Gift Voucher and chocolate each.

PLUCK A DUCK

This contest was only recently introduced consequently it has not taken off although Doncaster were well represented this year. It is challenging and requires good throttle control and courage to execute a pickup. Here Peter K is on a demonstration flight and lining up the model for a pickup on the next circuit which was successful.

The event which was won by David Nobes who was the only one other than PK to make a pick up. Peter went off to do some ground keeping and did not compete, pity he might have had two Bunnings vouchers for the day.
