The program was altered a little this year to accommodate the different skill levels of entrants. For simplicity the basis for the two events was the F2B pattern. Hearn's Trophy entrants were required to attempt the full pattern with the final score being the total of two flights. Yoeman entrants were not judged on the following elements of the pattern; outside square loops, inside triangles, horizontal square eight, hourglass, and the cloverleaf with the final score being the best of two flights.
Mark Ellins' Yatsenko Classic
Dave Nobes' Profile Sukhoi
Derek Pickard with a Grinham Dazzler
A second model of Derek's - just in case!! a Grinham Starcraft
Murray Wilson with his Brodak ARF SV11. Perhaps he is saving his Yatsenko for another day
Well the results were interesting
You can plainly see that Dave Nobes' round 1 score was a street above his closest competitor. Had it not been with some engine issues in the second round he may not have waved off the flight for a no score even though he went on to complete the pattern. This is not to take it away from Mark who put in a solid performance over both rounds. But it does go to show that a well setup puke profile in the right hands can hold it's own against far more elaborate machines. Had Murray arrived in time to compete in both rounds it is likely he would have grabbed second place barring any engine difficulties. Congratulations Mark to join the company of many fine stunt flyers names on the trophy over the years.
and the starters were:
