This was the year of the Super Skylark in the All Aussie static competition. There were 3 Super Skylarks entered, one from Ian Reid from South Australia, one by Peter Byrne from Benalla and another by the Club Treasurer/Secretary Bruce MacKay. Ian had a slight advantage having acquired his from a scale modeller, however he only just pipped the entry from Peter Byrne. Bruce would have been in the mix also if his entry had been completed in time.
Dave Lacy polled well bringing up third with his Les Organ design Vulcan and little Cyclone biplane, both planes scoring 13 votes each. We all know Kochie is a little nostalgic about Southern Models (Aeroflyte) being a crow eater himself and from the plethora of their designs he brought along the Avenger missed by one in knocking Dave Lacy out of 3rd place.
Ken Maier's little Spitfire, attractive as it is did not seem to capture the imagination of the voters nor did Dave Nobes, All Australian MK1 and Ramrod, but then Dave stamps his authority in the air as you will see.
Originally intended as a Vintage Stunt event for Australian Vintage designs, there has been insufficient entries to meet the requirements. Consequently a few imposters have crept in. However with the view that is better to go with the vintage spirit than apply he letter of intent, the competition proceeded.
Unfortunately Dave Lacey's model disintegrated in mid air much to Dave's chagrin which put and end to his chances. Mr Nobes however had no such difficulty finenessing his Ramrod ahead of Gavin with one of Ken Taylors models. Ken Maier brought up 3rd place, 1 point ahead of his long time flying buddy, Mark Usher.
That is 2 out of 3 wins from attempts for Mr Nobes which has his name firmly on the trophy.
