Romance Readers' Advisory for Teens and Tweens
Getting Comfortable with Romance Readers' Advisory for Teens and Tweens
Presented by Kris Buker and Katie Brown, Frederick County Public Libraries
Romance reader's advisory can be tough for someone who does not read in that genre. There are many tropes to understand, and oftentimes, readers are embarrassed to even ask for a title. This hands-on lecture will allow attendees to learn what those tropes are; to discover the resource tools that can assist them; and to understand that there are questions which must be asked in order to provide the best reader's advisory and ensure the title provided is age appropriate.
At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to:
Define common romance tropes and identify what types of romance are appropriate for various audiences.
Name tools available to assist with romance readers’ advisory and key questions to ask in a romance readers’ advisory interview.
Successfully complete on-the-spot readers’ advisory using suggested titles provided in the training and instruction on romance book cover conventions.
