YALSA’s “Transforming Teen Services”

through Connected Learning and Computational Thinking

Carrie Sanders, Maryland State Library

Kelsey Hughes, Prince Georges County Memorial Library

Who are our teens today? What makes them tick and what types of programs and services should libraries offer to them to enhance their academic, social, and emotional growth? In addition to exploring teen brain and emotional development, this session will provide skills in facilitating learning related to connected learning and computational thinking. Opportunities for libraries regarding equity in resources and services to teens will also be discussed. Attendees will be able to share experiences with each other and plan for future programming.

At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to …

* ...identify the ages and stages of teen development

* ...define the terms "connected learning" and "computational thinking" and plan a library program that incorporates these learning concepts.
