Music in Storytime
Music in Storytime: Diversify Your Music to Get Families Moving!
Presented by Marsha Quarles, Dwyn Griffin, Lauren Roots, and Shannon Young, Prince George's County Memorial Library System
We all know that children model their caregiver’s behavior, so if the grown-ups are moving and dancing, the children will follow. This presentation will show you how to get participants off their seat and moving to interactive songs. We will provide a plethora of music that will put a new twist on traditional Storytime songs to show you how to have a successful Storytime program.
At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to:
Identify at least three early literacy benefits of incorporating music into library programs for children birth to five years old.
Create a sample storytime plan that includes at least two appropriate and diverse musical selections.
Name at least three benefits of using music representing a variety of cultures and genres in library programs for children birth to five years old.
