John 1:1-18
The Word Becomes Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
2 Peter 1:12-21
Prophecy of Scripture
12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.
19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
John 20:28
My LORD and My GOD
28 Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
The Disciple St. John said that many did not believe or recognize Jesus for who He was when He walked the earth...In Jesus was life, and that life was the Light of all mankind...The Light that shines in the darkness, and still even to this day the darkness has not overcome it...Jesus would testify much about God, and through His testimony of God and His actions and what He taught and spoke showed others that He was the Light, so that through Him all might believe...
So Jesus came into the world and dwelt among us, and though the world was made through Him, we found if difficult to know who He was...Jesus was a Jew...And He came to the Jewish people, those of Hebrew descent, that which was His own, but His own could not quite figure out who He was...I wonder if that was because He was so God-like, and so close to God that it is hard for us to realize and to recognize this Great God, who is Great Spirit and LOVE...
But Jesus continued on and went around helping others, teaching others and His Disciples, and always speaking of God...And He was much like God in that respect...Jesus was and is the most God-Like human ever to walk the earth...And He died on a cross, and somehow was resurrected from His death...He seemed as a Human to be Majestic, and His Disciple Peter called Him His LORD and His Majesty...This is because St. Peter was an eyewitness to His Majesty...And when another Disciple saw Him after His death, he called Jesus, his LORD and his God...
Jesus had to be sent by God, so that we might better recognize who God is and so that we might know more about His Father...Jesus Words, Deeds, and Actions tell us more about God...
