1 John 4:15
God Lives in Those Who Acknowledge Jesus
15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.
Ephesians 1:13
Having Believed You Will Receive the Promised Holy Spirit
13And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory.
2 Corinthians 1:18-22
Paul, Silas, and Timothy Receive the Holy Spirit
18But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not "Yes" and "No." 19For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy, was not "Yes" and "No," but in him it has always been "Yes."20For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. 21Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
John 20:19-23
Jesus Appears to His Disciples
19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
Acts 2:1-4
The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
John 16:12-15
The Holy Spirit Guides Us Into All Truth
12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.
St. John tells us that anyone who acknowledges Jesus is the Son of God, God will live in them, and they in God...St. Paul tells the Corinthians that he, Silas, and Timothy have received the ownership of God, and He has put His Spirit in them...And Paul tells the Ephesians that too (can receive the Holy Spirit), if they believe in Christ, then they will be marked with a seal, and they will receive the promised Holy Spirit...
Both St. John and St. Luke write about the believing disciples receiving the Holy Spirit...All of the above verses show that believers receive have received the Holy Spirit...And when all believers receive the Holy Spirit and it (the Holy Spirit) is working in them, then the Holy Spirit will guide those who have the Holy Spirit into all truth...
So not only do and did the direct followers of Jesus, like the Twelve Disciples and St. Paul receive the Holy Spirit, we can receive the Holy Spirit by acknowledging and believing in the Son of God...
