Events in 2021

The Chapel hosts special events throughout the year including the annual Founders Day service in April, Sunday evening vespers during the summer, the Swedish Högmässa service in September, and the "Joy of Christmas" service in early December. Virtual Founders Day Service

Sunday, April 25, 4:00 pm

Jenny Lind, the famed Swedish soprano, will be remembered at a special service celebrating her 200^th birthday. While this service was to have been held in-person last year, it had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 situation. On Sunday, April 25 at 4 pm it will premier. Here is the video.

Four members of the Jenny Lind Vocal Ensemble, an advanced choir of treble voices from Augustana College, will feature pieces associated with Miss Lind’s performances. The singers are Noel Huntley, Jessa Simon, Sarah Walton and Amber Johnson. Dr. Michael Zemek, associate professor of music at Augustana College, will deliver a homily with highlights based on the life of Jenny Lind. The accompanist is Gayle Baldwin.

Birdies for Charity
The Jenny Lind Chapel is again participating in the John Deere Classic Golf Tournament Birdies for Charity pledge program. This is a great way to provide funds for the Chapel ministry.

The official pledge card may be downloaded and printed. It is actually preferred that you make a donation online. In filling out the card, the charity name is "Jenny Lind Chapel" and the Bird Number is 1955. The address for sending in your pledge card is Birdies for Charity, 15623 Coaltown Rd, East Moline, IL 61244. All pledge cards must be received by June 21, 2021.

Saturday, June 5

You will have another opportunity to celebrate Jenny Lind's anniversary by visiting the Jenny Lind Chapel anytime from 10 am - 3 pm to visit with "Jenny Lind" (K. Krewer) and hear her sing. The Jenny Lind Chapel will also have a float in the parade that will start at 1 pm.

Vespers
Sunday evening at 7:00 pm

Jul. 25. Pastor Reed Pedersen, from Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover, will lead this service. Debbie Lawyer from Orion will play the pump organ.

Aug. 29. Pastor Randy Willers will lead this service. Pastor Willers retired last year from Salem Lutheran Church in Moline, where he served as pastor for 14 years. Terri Nelson from Augustana Lutheran Church will play the pump organ for this service.

The Joy of Christmas Past and Present
Wednesday, December 1, 7:30 pm
Students and faculty from Augustana College join the community for this beautiful service of worship and music that starts at Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover. The Christmas story will be read in several different languages.

The service is being held in-person this year (masks are required) and will also be live-streamed. Here is the link. The service starts at about 15:30.

Special music will be provided by students and faculty in the music department at Augustana College, and a message will be given by Pastor Melinda Pupillo, Campus Chaplain and Director of Spiritual Development at Augustana College. The service concludes with a procession to the Jenny Lind Chapel, completely lit by candlelight, for communion and caroling.

Following the service, refreshments will be served in Luther Hall at Augustana Church.
