Sons & Daughters of Thunder

Saturday, March 30, 7:30 pm

Augustana Lutheran Church

Sons & Daughters of Thunder, has been set by Kelly & Tammy Rundle, the director and producer from Fourth Wall Films. This documentary was partially filmed at the Jenny Lind Chapel. This will be a benefit, with donations going to the Jenny Lind Chapel. The premier of this film will be held at the Putnam National Geographic Theater in Davenport on Saturday, March 16, 6:30 pm. It will also run on PBS stations.

Based on a play, Sons & Daughters of Thunder tells the unforgettable true story of the beginning of the end of slavery in America. In 1834, eighteen days of student-sponsored debates were held at Lane Seminary in Cincinnati, OH, (this is the segment filmed at the Jenny Lind Chapel). This shocking oratory sparked intense controversy and awakened a young Harriet Beecher Stowe (author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin") to the realities of slavery. Fourth Walls Films is an award-winning and Regional Emmy® nominated independent film and video production company, formerly located in Los Angeles, and now based in the Quad Cities.

Founders Day Service
Sunday, April 28, 4:00 pm

This service celebrates the 159th anniversary of both the Augustana Lutheran Church in America and Augustana College and Theological Seminary and the 169th anniversary of the Andover Lutheran congregation in Andover. Northern Illinois Synod Bishop Jeffrey Clements will be the featured speaker. Special music will be provided by the Quad Cities Celtic instrumental group: John Kinser (drum), Jenny Garner (flute), Kristin Stambaugh (fiddle) and Chris Dunn (guitar).

The recently renovated 160-year old melodeon will be rededicated. Pam Edwards from Moline will then play this historic instrument, which was used for services at the Chapel in the 1850's and 1860's. Deanna Swanson from Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover will be the organist. Following the service, light refreshments will be served by members of Salem Lutheran Church in Moline.
