Andover Colonial Days Festival

Saturday, June 2 - Antique lawn and farm tractor show, Velie vehicle display, arts and crafts, food, fishing derby for kids, kart racing/contests, Philippine dancers, talent show, pork chop supper, and concert by the Orion Community Band. Events are held at the Andover Lake Park and nearby sites including the Jenny Lind Chapel.

Sunday, June 3 - Antique lawn and farm tractor show, pancake breakfast, outdoor community worship (9:00 am), and Young Marine Chamber Orchestra/Salute to Veterans. Events are held at the Andover Lake Park and nearby sites.

Lunch and Bus Tour - ABBAFest with Augustana College
Saturday, September 8, 11:30 am to 3:30 pm

Explore Bishop Hill, the utopian colony established by Swedish dissident Erik Jansson in the 19th Century. After lunch at P.L. Johnson's restaurant, return to Andover for a stop at the Jenny Lind Chapel and Augustana Lutheran Church. Return to campus at 3:30 pm.

Chapel featured on TV-6

On September 24 Fran Riley of KWQC TV-6 visited the Jenny Lind Chapel and produced a 4 minute feature story that was shown during a newscast the next day. Included in this special video were comments by Kai Swanson and beautiful singing by Deanna Swanson.

Swedish Högmässa Service

Sunday, September 30, 4:00 pm

The sermon in English will be given by Pastor Michel Clark, Grace Lutheran, Knoxville. He is also an Assistant to the Bishop of the Northern Illinois Synod of the ELCA. The liturgy, spoken and sung in Swedish, will be led by Bertil Sandin, East Moline. Deanna Swanson will be the organist and provide special music.

A freewill offering received during the service will be used to support the maintenance and preservation of the Chapel. Light refreshments will be served following the service.

Andover Christmas Walk
Saturday, December 1, 5:00-8:00 pm (first Saturday in December)

The walk is at several locations. It includes choral and instrumental music at the candle-lit Jenny Lind Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Joy of Christmas with Augustana College
Wednesday, December 5, 7:30 pm

This event starts at Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover and ends at the candle-lit Jenny Lind Chapel. Students and faculty from Augustana College join the community for this beautiful service of worship and music.

The Christmas story will be read in several different languages. Dr. Sharron Varallo, Professor of Communication Studies at Augustana College, will give the homely. The Ascension Singers, the Brass Ensemble and organist Larry Peterson, all from the college, will provide the music. The service concludes with everyone processing to Jenny Lind Chapel, which is illuminated only by 100 candles, and where Holy Communion will be celebrated to the strains of familiar Christmas Carols led by the Ascension Singers. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served in Luther Hall following the service.

At this service the choir anthem is in Swedish and the sermon is in English.
